They used to fill those with petrol, but since the cars would break down long before they ran out of fuel owners started filling the jerry cans with booze so they’d have something to drink waiting for a tow.

My student with the vintage Land Rover drives a far cooler car than most of his peers. I also see a lot of him (while directing traffic for everybody else since for some reason we can’t trust kids to do it) even though I don’t teach him this year because he breaks down so much.
